How To Transfer Files From Your Old Computer to Your New Computer Using the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System

Run the File Transfer Wizard from the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System CD

If you have your Microsoft Windows XP CD available, you can use the CD to create your backup image file to removable media. To do this, perform the following steps:

1. Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD into the CD drive on your source computer.
The Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP window appears.

2. Click the Perform additional tasks option.
The "What do you want to do?" window appears.

3. Click Transfer files and settings.
The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard appears.

4. Click the Next button.
The "Which computer is this?" window appears.

5. Click the Old Computer option.

6. Click the Next button.
The window prompts you to Select a transfer method.

7. Choose your preferred method of transfer.

8. Proceed to the Completing the File and Transfer Wizard section below.

Completing the File and Transfer Wizard

1. Click the Other radio button.

2. Click the Browse button.
The Browse For Folder window appears.

3. Select the location that you would like to store your data to (such as a ZIP drive or CD-R/CD-RW drive).

4. Click the OK button.
You will return to the previous window.

5. Click the Next button.
The "What do you want to transfer?" window appears.
