How to Setup PC Anywhere and a Router

Part 1 Router and Host Setup

PC Anywhere can connect home and office computers together to share files over a secure connection to give you access anytime day or night 24/7/365. Setup consists of setting up both a host computer and a remote computer. First we will set up the router and then the Host computer.

INSTALL pcAnywhere on both computers. Run live update by opening program and clicking on Help > LiveUpdate.

Router Setup

To access router settings open a browser window and type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. The default password for the router is admin and nothing for the user name. Find your ip address (usually located under the status tab). Write this number down. You will need it in Part 2 of this tutorial. Now click on port range to set your ports at 5631 and 5632. Be sure to enable ports. These ports are located under the Applications & Gaming tab on a Linksys router. Save settings and close browser window. You are now ready to configure pcAnywhere.

Host Computer Setup

Open Program. Click on icon for host.

Click on Add Host. When widow below opens make sure TCP/ip is checked.

Next click on the Settings tab. Check the Launch with Windows box if you want pcAnywhere to launch when your computer is started. Make sure the rest of the settings look like the window below.

Click on the Callers tab to add a caller. The caller will be the user name and password used by the remote computer.

Choose a login name and password. It is best to use a password that is alphanumeric.

If you are setting this connection up for your personal connection you will want to have full access. Click on the Privileges tab and choose Superuser.
