Windows XP Networking Checklist

1. Ensure all computers are on same workgroup

2. Each computer has a unique computer name--not description

3. Physical hardware and cabling is good.

4. The Guest account turned on

5. No firewall software on any computer

6. No network bridges

7. Navigate to Network connections>TCP/IP>properties>WINS tab>Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

8. Enable Shares, not just the Shared Documents folder

9. Go to command prompt, type in each command and hit enter

a. ipconfig /all elicits all networking settings

b. ping 127.0.0.1--4 replies--OK

c. ping IP Address--4 replies--OK

d. Ping IP addresses of other computers

e. Go to start / run \IP address--OK

f. Go to start / run \computer name--OK should now be showing in Network neighborhood or My Network Places
